Enablex (Darifenacin ER)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Enablex and each time you get a refill, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your healthcare provider for clarification.
• Take Enablex by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once a day.
• Swallow the tablets whole with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters).
• Use this medication regularly to obtain the most benefit from it. To help remember, take it at the same time each day.
• The dosage of Enablex is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.
• If your condition does not improve or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Avoid crushing or chewing the tablets, as doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed. Doing so will not improve your condition any faster and may increase your risk of experiencing side effects.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Indigestion
• Constipation
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision

Serious Side Effects:

• Severe stomach pain or constipation
• Confusion, hallucinations
• Little or no urination
• Pain or burning when urinating
• Signs of dehydration, such as feeling very thirsty or hot, being unable to urinate, heavy sweating, or hot and dry skin

This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. If you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects while taking Enablex, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice. 

Store Enablex at room temperature away from light and moisture. It should not be stored in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.

The daily dose of Enablex should not exceed 7.5 mg for patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B) or when co-administered with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors. Enablex is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C).

Only a healthcare provider has the knowledge and training to decide which medicines are right for a specific patient. Consult your healthcare provider before taking any drug, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.

Enablex should not be taken if you have untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, a stomach disorder causing delayed emptying, or if you have trouble emptying your bladder.

If you experience signs of an allergic reaction to Enablex, such as hives, seek emergency medical help.
