Zyloprim (allopurinol) is used to manage signs and symptoms of primary or secondary gout. It can help with acute attacks, tophi (deposits of uric acid crystals), joint destruction, uric acid lithiasis (formation of uric acid stones), and nephropathy (kidney damage).

Zyloprim is also used in adult and pediatric patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumor malignancies who are receiving cancer therapy that causes elevations of serum and urinary uric acid levels.

Allopurinol works to manage gout and prevent complications by lowering uric acid levels in the body.
