Micardis (Telmisartan)

Do:

• Take Micardis exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
• Take it with or without food, whichever your healthcare provider recommends.
• Take it consistently at the same time each day to avoid missed doses.
• Continue taking Micardis even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after starting Micardis.

Don't:

• Do not adjust your dosage or stop taking Micardis without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Do not take Micardis more often than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Do not use expired Micardis.
• Do not share your Micardis medication with others

It may take up to 4 weeks for Micardis to reach its full effect in controlling your blood pressure. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking before starting Micardis.

Common Side Effects:

• Stuffy nose
• Sinus pain
• Diarrhea
• Drowsiness
• Dry mouth
• Headache
• Joint or muscle pain
• Nausea
• Rash
• Tiredness
• Vomiting

Serious Side Effects:

• Changes in vision
• Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
• Fast heartbeat
• Large hives
• Weakness or heaviness of the legs
• Signs of anemia (low red blood cells), such as dizziness, pale skin, unusual tiredness or weakness, shortness of breath
• Signs of a serious blood infection, such as chills, confusion, fever or low body temperature, shakiness, irregular heartbeat
• Signs of high potassium levels, including nausea, weakness, tingly feeling, chest pain, irregular heartbeats, loss of movement
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Micardis,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to telmisartan or other ingredients.

Disclose your medical history, particularly liver disease, bile duct blockage, high potassium levels, or dehydration.

Micardis may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you understand how it affects you.

Limit alcohol and marijuana use, as they can worsen dizziness.

Report severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting to your healthcare provider, as they can lead to dehydration and lightheadedness.

Drink plenty of fluids unless your healthcare provider instructs otherwise, especially if experiencing dehydration symptoms.

Consult your healthcare provider before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes due to potential increased potassium levels caused by Micardis.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take before any surgery.

Do not take Micardis if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It may harm an unborn baby.

Discuss the risks and benefits of taking Micardis with your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding.
