Vaseretic (Enalapril/HCTZ)

Do’s

• Vaseretic should be taken orally, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual recommended dosage is once daily. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the dosing schedule.
• Take Vaseretic at least 4 hours before bedtime to avoid the need to wake up to urinate during the night.
• If you are also taking cholestyramine or colestipol, take Vaseretic at least 4 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after taking those drugs.
• The dosage of Vaseretic is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• It may take several weeks before you experience the full benefit of Vaseretic. Continue taking the medication as prescribed, even if you feel well.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens, such as if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase.

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness
• Fatigue (tiredness)
• Headache

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Severe skin reactions
• Fainting or lightheadedness
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat
• Signs of kidney problems, such as decreased urination or swelling in the feet or ankles
• Signs of high potassium levels, such as muscle weakness or irregular heartbeat

Seek medical attention if you experience any severe or persistent side effects while taking Vaseretic.

If you are allergic to Vaseretic, enalapril, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfa drugs, or any ACE inhibitor, you should not take this medication.

Vaseretic should not be taken during pregnancy as it may cause birth defects or harm to the unborn baby. If you become pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking Vaseretic, inform your healthcare provider immediately.

Vaseretic can affect kidney function. Closely monitor for signs of kidney problems, such as decreased urination or swelling in the feet or ankles. If you experience any such symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

Vaseretic may cause an increase in potassium levels in the blood. Monitor potassium levels regularly, especially if you have kidney problems or are taking other medications that can increase potassium levels.

Vaseretic may rarely cause angioedema, which is swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any signs of angioedema, such as difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Vaseretic may interact with other medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.
