Requip XL (Ropinirole Hydrochloride)

Do’s

• Before starting to take Requip XL and each time you get a refill, read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• Requip XL is usually taken by mouth once daily, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. However, taking it with food may help decrease the risk of nausea. 
• Swallow the tablets whole.
• The dosage of Requip XL is based on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. Your healthcare provider may start you on a low dose and gradually increase it to reduce the risk of side effects. Follow their instructions carefully regarding the dosage.
• To get the most benefit from Requip XL, use it regularly. Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember. 
• If you stop taking this medication for several days, you may need to slowly increase your dose back to your previous dosage. Consult your healthcare provider on how to restart the medication.
• Sudden discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, depression, confusion, fever, and muscle stiffness. To prevent withdrawal symptoms, your healthcare provider may lower your dose slowly. If you experience any withdrawal symptoms, inform your healthcare provider immediately.
• If your condition does not improve or if it worsens while taking Requip XL, inform your healthcare provider

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the tablets, as doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Do not stop taking Requip XL without consulting your healthcare provider. Some conditions may worsen if the medication is suddenly stopped.

• Dyskinesia
• Orthostatic hypotension
• Decreased blood pressure
• Decreased pulse
• Drowsiness
• Increased pulse
• Dizziness
• Hallucination
• Hypotension
• Systolic hypertension
• Vertigo

Not all individuals will experience these side effects, and some may experience different or additional side effects. If you have concerns about the side effects of Requip XL, consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Requip XL may cause drowsiness or impaired alertness. If you experience increased sleepiness or fall asleep during the day, avoid driving or participating in activities that require alertness until you have discussed this effect with your healthcare provider. The risk of this sleep effect may be increased by using alcohol or other medications that can make you drowsy.

Requip XL may have additive effects when taken with other sedating medications, alcohol, or central nervous system depressants (such as benzodiazepines, antipsychotics, and antidepressants). Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

Requip XL may cause syncope (fainting) and may lead to low blood pressure (hypotension). Patients should be advised about the possibility of experiencing syncope and developing hypotension while taking Requip XL.

Consult a healthcare provider before taking Requip XL if you are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant. The safety and effectiveness of Requip XL during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been established.

Requip XL should be used with caution in patients with a history of hallucinations, low blood pressure, or cardiovascular disease. Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing medical conditions or allergies before starting Requip XL.
