Caduet is a prescription medication that combines two drugs: amlodipine and atorvastatin.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure and prevent chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the workload on the heart. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Preventing chest pain can improve the ability to exercise.
Atorvastatin is used along with a proper diet to lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of drugs called "statins" and works by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. Lowering "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and raising "good" cholesterol decreases the risk of heart disease, strokes, and heart attacks.
Lifestyle changes such as exercising, losing weight if overweight, and quitting smoking can also help improve the effectiveness of atorvastatin.
