Before taking Synjardy or making any changes to your medication or diet, consult a healthcare provider to ensure that the use of the medication is safe, appropriate, and effective for your specific medical condition and circumstances.
If metformin-associated lactic acidosis is suspected, immediate discontinuation of Synjardy and the institution of general supportive measures in a hospital setting is recommended. Prompt hemodialysis may also be necessary.
Synjardy is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, as it may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in these patients. Synjardy should be discontinued at the time of, or prior to, an iodinated contrast imaging procedure in patients with an eGFR less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m², in patients with a history of liver disease, alcoholism, or heart failure, or in patients who will be administered intra-arterial iodinated contrast. Renal function should be assessed before initiating Synjardy and as clinically indicated. Additionally, volume status should be assessed, and in patients with volume depletion, this condition should be corrected before initiating Synjardy.
Individuals with a known allergy to Synjardy or any of its ingredients should avoid taking this medication.
Synjardy should be stored at room temperature (77°F/25°C).
