ProAir Respiclick (Albuterol Sulfate)

Do’s

• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on dosage and frequency (typically every 4-6 hours as needed).
• Use the inhaler 15-30 minutes before exercise to prevent exercise-induced asthma.
• Inhale only: Open the cap, breathe out fully, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, seal your lips around it, and inhale deeply. Hold your breath for 10 seconds (or comfortably).
• Clean the mouthpiece with a dry cloth as needed.
• If using other inhalers, wait at least 1 minute between each use.
• Monitor your inhaler use and replace it when empty (refer to package instructions).
• Learn the difference between controller and quick-relief inhalers.
• Consult your healthcare provider about worsening symptoms or quick-relief inhaler ineffectiveness.

Don'ts

• Do not use the inhaler more often than prescribed without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Do not use a spacer with this inhaler.
• Do not open the cap unless using the inhaler.
• Do not breathe into the inhaler device.
• Do not use water or other liquids to clean the inhaler.
• Do not use the inhaler after it has been washed or submerged in water.
• Do not ignore worsening symptoms or decreased effectiveness of the quick-relief inhaler.

Common side effects:

• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Nervousness
• Shakiness
• Dizziness
• Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Cough
• Muscle pain
• Changes in taste

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems after using ProAir RespiClick
• Chest pain, fast heart rate, pounding heartbeats, or fluttering in the chest
• Worsening trouble breathing, coughing, and wheezing (paradoxical bronchospasm)
• Serious and sudden worsening of breathing problems/asthma
• Irregular heartbeat
• Rapid breathing
• Confusion
• Chest pain
• Rapid heartbeat

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Proair respiclick,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider if you are allergic to albuterol, similar medications, or any ingredients in ProAir RespiClick (especially lactose or milk proteins).

Medical conditions to discuss with your healthcare provider:

• Heart problems, including irregular heartbeat, angina, or previous heart attack
• High blood pressure
• Seizures

ProAir RespiClick may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you feel safe. Limit alcohol and marijuana use.

Before having surgery, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including ProAir RespiClick.

ProAir RespiClick should only be used during pregnancy when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. It is unknown if ProAir RespiClick passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.

ProAir RespiClick can interact with other medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products. Do not use medications containing levalbuterol while using ProAir RespiClick, as they are very similar.
