Tessalon Perles (Benzonatate)

Do's

• The dosage of Tessalon Perles is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not take more of this drug than recommended, as doing so will not make your cough go away faster but may result in serious side effects.
• Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 3 times daily as needed.
• Swallow the medication whole. Do not chew, suck, or dissolve the medication in your mouth, as doing so will cause a loss of feeling in your mouth/throat and may cause choking or a severe allergic reaction. Do not eat or drink until the numbness goes away. If the numbness lasts or gets worse, seek medical help right away.

Never suck or chew on a Tessalon Perles capsule. The pill should be swallowed whole. Sucking or chewing the capsule may cause serious side effects.

Tessalon Perles is not approved for use by anyone younger than 10 years old. An overdose of benzonatate can be fatal, especially to a young child who has accidentally swallowed the medicine.

You should not use Tessalon Perles if you are allergic to Tessalon Perles or topical numbing medicines such as tetracaine or procaine (found in some insect bite and sunburn creams).

Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking Tessalon Perles.

Store Tessalon Perles at room temperature away from light and moisture. It should be kept in a child-resistant container and away from children and pets.
