Biacna Topical Gel is a medication used for the treatment of acne.

This gel contains a combination of two active ingredients: clindamycin phosphate and tretinoin.  Clindamycin is an antibiotic that works by preventing the growth of bacteria, while tretinoin is a retinoid that affects the growth of skin cells.

The combination of these two ingredients targets several mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of acne, including anti-inflammatory and antibacterial actions, as well as comedolytic and anticomedogenic actions.

Do’s

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after applying Biacna.
  • Clean and dry the affected area gently according to your healthcare provider's instructions. Pat the area dry, avoid rubbing.
  • Apply a pea-sized amount of gel to your fingertip and dot it on the areas where acne occurs, such as your chin, cheeks, forehead, and nose.
  • Gently rub the gel into a thin layer.
  • Use Biacna once daily, preferably at bedtime, unless your healthcare provider instructs you differently.

Don'ts

  • Don't apply Biacna to broken, irritated, or sunburned skin.
  • Don't use more Biacna than prescribed by your healthcare provider. More is not necessarily better and can increase side effects.
  • Don't get Biacna in your eyes, mouth, or nose. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Don't apply Biacna to large areas of skin, especially on folded areas like the armpits or groin.
  • Don't use other topical acne medications or harsh cleansers on the same area you are treating with Biacna, unless your healthcare provider tells you to. These can irritate your skin.
  • Don't cover the treated area with a bandage unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

  • Skin redness
  • Dryness
  • Itching
  • Peeling
  • Mild burning/stinging
  • Temporary change in skin color
  • Sunburn
  • Temporary discomfort

Serious Side Effects:

  • Blistering/crusting of the skin
  • Severe burning/swelling of the skin
  • Severe redness, burning, stinging, or peeling of treated skin areas
  • Severe intestinal condition due to a bacteria called C. difficile (very rare)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Biacna topical gel, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Biacna should not touch your eyes, eyelids, corners of your nose or mouth, mucous membranes (including inside your nose or mouth, or genitals), or other areas not intended for treatment. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Biacna can cause skin irritation, including dryness, redness, and peeling, especially during initial use. Inform your healthcare provider if irritation becomes severe.

Biacna increases sun sensitivity. Minimize sun exposure, wear sunscreen (SPF 30 minimum), and use protective clothing outdoors.

Don't use more Biacna than prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Biacna may cause allergic skin reactions (itching, redness, swelling, blistering). Discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider if you experience these symptoms.

Biacna is not recommended for pregnant women. Women who may become pregnant should use birth control while using Biacna.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it is unknown if Biacna passes into breast milk.
