Emend (Aprepitant)

Do's

• Take Emend by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider. 
• Swallow capsules whole if you are taking capsules. 
• Take the first dose of Emend as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 1 hour before the start of chemotherapy. 
• Take a dose of Emend once daily, 1 hour before the start of each chemotherapy treatment, if applicable, for the next 2 days. 
• Take a dose of Emend once daily in the morning if you are not receiving any chemotherapy on a particular day. 
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding when to take each dose, how long to continue taking Emend, and the specific strength (number of milligrams) of each dose. 

 The dosage of Emend is based on your medical condition, age, and response to treatment. In children, the dosage may also be based on weight. 

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Loss of appetite
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Hiccups
• Abdominal pain
• Changes in taste
• Insomnia
• Rash

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Emend,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Before taking  Emend, it is important to be aware of certain warnings and precautions:

Duration of Use: Emend is typically used only during the first three days of chemotherapy treatment cycles. Do not continue taking Emend longer than instructed by your healthcare provider.

Allergies: Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to aprepitant, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in Emend capsules or oral suspension. Ask your healthcare provider for a list of the ingredients

Medication Interactions: Some medications may interact with aprepitant, leading to dosing changes or requiring extra monitoring. Discuss any medications you are currently taking or plan to take with your healthcare provider before starting aprepitant.

Existing Nausea or Vomiting: Emend is not intended to treat nausea or vomiting that has already started. If you experience nausea or vomiting, consult your healthcare provider for appropriate guidance.

Dosage Instructions: Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and read the Patient Information Leaflet or Instructions for Use sheet for proper administration of Emend. Take the medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider. Swallow the capsules whole if you are taking the capsule form of Emend.
