Evista (Raloxifene) is specifically meant for postmenopausal women to prevent and treat bone loss (osteoporosis). Raloxifene works by slowing down bone loss and strengthening bones, reducing the risk of fractures. In some cases, it may also decrease the chance of developing a specific type of breast cancer (invasive) after menopause. It's not an estrogen hormone, but it mimics estrogen's effects in bones while blocking its action in other areas like the uterus and breasts. Evista does not alleviate menopause symptoms like hot flashes.
