Effient (Prasugrel)

Do's

• Take Effient exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. 
• Take the usual recommended dose of 10 mg orally once a day. 
• Take a low-dose aspirin (usually 81-162 milligrams a day) along with Effient if directed by your healthcare provider. 
• Take Effient with or without food. 
• Swallow the tablet whole. 
• Take Effient exactly as directed by your healthcare provider. 
• Use Effient regularly to get the most benefit from it. 
• Try to take it at the same time each day to help you remember. 

Don'ts

• Do not increase your dose or take Effient more often than prescribed. 
• Do not crush, chew, or break the Effient tablet. 

 The dosage of Effient is based on your medical condition, weight, and response to treatment. 

Common Side Effects:

• Nosebleeds
• Easy bruising or bleeding

Less Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Rash
• Itching
• Shortness of breath
• Abdominal pain
• Indigestion
• Joint pain

Before taking Effient, it is important to be aware of certain warnings and precautions:

Bleeding Risk: Effient can increase the risk of bleeding, including serious and potentially life-threatening bleeding. It should be used with caution in patients who are at an increased risk of bleeding, such as those with a history of bleeding disorders, recent surgery, or trauma. Promptly report any signs of bleeding, such as unusual bruising, bleeding gums, or blood in the urine or stool, to a healthcare provider.

Allergic Reactions: Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to Effient. Seek immediate medical attention if any signs of an allergic reaction occur, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.

Black Box Warning: Effient carries a black box warning, which is the strongest warning issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The warning highlights the increased risk of bleeding, particularly in patients who undergo coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Effient should generally be discontinued at least 7 days prior to CABG surgery, unless the benefits outweigh the risks.

Other Precautions: Effient should be used with caution in patients with a history of stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), or intracranial hemorrhage. It should also be used cautiously in patients with severe liver disease or kidney disease.
