Rimadyl (Carprofen)

Do’s

• Your veterinarian will prescribe a dosage and treatment plan based on your dog’s weight and the cause of their pain. The typical dosage is 2 mg per pound of body weight given once daily, or it can be divided and administered as 1 mg per pound twice daily.
• Most dogs willingly take Rimadyl chewable tablets as a treat. If not, you can hide the tablet in a small amount of tasty food. Although Rimadyl can be given with or without food, giving it with food can help reduce the chance of stomach upset.
• Give Rimadyl for as long as your veterinarian recommends. Many dogs, especially those with osteoarthritis, require long-term treatment. If your dog still appears in pain or is reluctant to play, climb stairs, or jump, additional pain medications may be necessary.
• If you forget to give a dose of Rimadyl, give it when you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the normal dosing schedule.
• Consult your veterinarian for specific dosage instructions and closely follow their guidance for the safe and effective use of Rimadyl for your dog's pain management.

Common Side Effects

• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Blood in stool
• Decreased appetite. 

Severe complications like gastrointestinal ulcerations and bleeding are possible, monitor your pet for any signs of these issues.

Serious Side Effects: 

• Long-term use of Rimadyl may lead to more serious side effects such as kidney or liver damage. 

Be aware of these serious side effects when considering the use of Rimadyl for your dog.

Discontinue therapy and contact your vet immediately if any side effects occur.

Due to the palatable nature of Rimadyl chewable tablets, they should be stored out of reach of dogs in a secured location. Severe adverse reactions may occur if large quantities of tablets are ingested. If you suspect your dog has consumed Rimadyl chewable tablets above the labeled dose, immediate veterinary assistance is recommended.
