Stalevo 100 (Carbidopa-Levodopa-Entacapone)

Do’s

• The dosage of Stalevo 100 is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your healthcare provider will prescribe the appropriate dose for you. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it.
• Take Stalevo 100 by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider. Taking it with food may help decrease nausea.
• Usually, Stalevo 100 is taken 3 to 4 times a day. Take only one tablet for each dose and swallow the tablet whole. 
• Separate your dose of Stalevo 100 by as many hours as possible from any iron supplements or products containing iron, such as multivitamins with minerals. Iron can reduce the amount of Stalevo 100 absorbed by the body. 
• Some patients may experience a "wearing-off" effect, where symptoms worsen before the next dose is due. An "on-off" effect may also occur, with sudden short periods of stiffness. If you experience these effects, contact your healthcare provider for possible dose adjustments that may help lessen these effects.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

Don’ts

• Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet, as it may affect the dose and cause staining of the mouth, dentures, and saliva.
• Avoid a high-protein diet during treatment, unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider, as it may reduce the amount of levodopa your body absorbs. Additionally, avoid taking this medication with a high-fat, high-calorie meal, as it can delay the onset of action by about 2 hours.
• Do not stop taking Stalevo 100 without consulting your healthcare provider. Suddenly stopping the medication can worsen certain conditions. Your healthcare provider may lower your dose slowly to help prevent withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, depression, confusion, fever, and muscle stiffness. If you have been using Stalevo 100 for a long time or in high doses, withdrawal symptoms are more likely. If you have any concerns about discontinuing the medication, speak with your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects

• Diarrhea
• Dyskinesia (hyperkinetic muscle activity)
• Nausea
• Dark urine
• Urine discoloration
• Abdominal pain
• Vomiting

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions
• Hallucinations
• Severe dizziness
• Fainting
• Irregular heartbeat
• Mental/mood changes
• Uncontrolled movements
• Muscle stiffness
• Difficulty urinating
• Changes in sexual ability

Seek medical attention if you experience any serious side effects while taking Stalevo 100.

If you are allergic to Stalevo 100 or any of its components, inform your healthcare provider. Allergic reactions can be serious and may require immediate medical attention.

Stalevo 100 may cause increased sleepiness or episodes of falling asleep during activities that require active participation. Avoid driving or engaging in potentially dangerous activities if you experience increased sleepiness. This effect can be intensified by using alcohol or other medications that can make you drowsy.

Stalevo 100 may interact with other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently using to avoid potential interactions. 

The use of Stalevo 100 during pregnancy or while breastfeeding should be discussed with your healthcare provider. The potential risks and benefits should be carefully evaluated.

If you are scheduled for surgery, inform your healthcare provider that you are taking Stalevo 100. They may provide specific instructions regarding the use of Stalevo 100 before and after the surgery.

Regular laboratory tests may be required during long-term treatment with Stalevo 100. Follow up with your healthcare provider and undergo any recommended tests.
