Cutivate Ointment (Fluticasone)

Do’s

• Use for external applications only:
• Apply Cutivate ointment only on your skin.
• Clean and dry before application: Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before using the ointment. Clean and dry the affected skin area as well.
• Apply a thin layer: Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and rub it in gently as directed by your healthcare provider. The usual frequency is once or twice daily.
• Keep the area uncovered (usually): Avoid bandaging, covering, or wrapping the treated area unless your healthcare provider instructs you otherwise.
• Wash hands after use (except for hands): Wash your hands after each application, unless you're using Cutivate ointment to treat your hands themselves.

Don'ts

• Don't apply a larger amount of ointment, use it more often, or use it for longer than your healthcare provider prescribes. It won't improve your condition faster and might increase side effects.
• Don't use it for other conditions: Use Cutivate ointment only for the condition your healthcare provider prescribed it for.
• Don't discontinue treatment abruptly: Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve within 2 weeks of treatment or if it worsens. Don't stop using Cutivate ointment on your own.
• Don't use it on the face, groin, underarms, or for diaper rash unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
• Avoid eyes, nose, and mouth: Be careful not to get Cutivate ointment in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If it does come into contact with these areas, rinse thoroughly with water.

Common Side Effects:

• Temporary skin irritation, including stinging or burning at the application site.

Serious Side Effects:

• Skin problems, such as skin reactions, thinning of the skin (atrophy), skin infections, and allergic reactions at the treatment site.
• Vision problems, including an increased chance of developing cataracts and glaucoma.
• Other potential serious side effects include weight gain (especially in the face or upper back and torso), thinning or discolored skin, increased body hair, muscle weakness, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, mood changes, menstrual changes, and sexual changes.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Cutivate ointment,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider of any allergies you have, including allergies to fluticasone or any of the medication's ingredients, especially formaldehyde.

Tell your healthcare provider about any pre-existing health problems, especially:

• Poor blood circulation
• Diabetes
• Immune system problems

Corticosteroids like fluticasone can worsen skin infections. Inform your healthcare provider if you have a skin infection or if your condition does not improve with treatment.

Using Cutivate Ointment for a long time or on large areas of skin may suppress your body's ability to respond to physical stress. Tell your healthcare provider about your use of Cutivate Ointment before any surgery, or emergency treatment, or if you experience a serious illness or injury.

Long-term use of Cutivate Ointment may slow down growth in children. Regular healthcare provider visits are recommended to monitor your child's height.

Discuss the risks and benefits of using Cutivate Ointment with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

It is unknown if fluticasone passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding if you are using Cutivate Ointment.
