Do’s

• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions precisely. This includes dosage, frequency, and how to use the inhaler properly.
• Use Alupent only for sudden shortness of breath or wheezing. It's a reliever medication, not a preventative one.
• Shake the inhaler well before each use.
• Rinse your mouth with water after using the inhaler to prevent thrush (fungal infection in the mouth).
• Carry your rescue inhaler with you at all times.
• See your healthcare provider regularly to monitor your asthma and adjust your medication plan as needed.
• Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you're taking, including over-the-counter meds and herbal supplements.

Don'ts

• Don't use Alupent more often than prescribed by your healthcare provider. Overuse can be dangerous and worsen your asthma symptoms.
• Don't use Alupent to prevent exercise-induced asthma. There are separate medications for this purpose.
• Don't share your inhaler with others.
• Don't rely solely on Alupent to manage your asthma. There might be additional medications or techniques needed for long-term control.
• Don't stop taking Alupent without consulting your healthcare provider. Even if you feel better, stopping abruptly can worsen your asthma.
• Don't use Alupent if your inhaler is expired. The medication might not be effective anymore.

Common side effects of Alupent may include:

• Tremor
• Nervousness
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Headache
• Nausea
• Dry mouth
• Increased heart rate

Serious side effects of Alupent are rare but may include:

• Increased difficulty breathing
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat
• Chest pain or discomfort
• Allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing

Alupent, like other beta-adrenergic inhalers, can cause a paradoxical reaction where airways tighten further, worsening breathing difficulties. If you experience this, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.

Alupent can increase heart rate and blood pressure. Be cautious if you have pre-existing heart conditions like arrhythmias, angina, or high blood pressure.

Using Alupent more than prescribed can worsen asthma symptoms and lead to dependence on the medication.

Alupent can elevate blood sugar levels and may require medication adjustments for these conditions.

Alupent use might increase seizure risk in individuals with epilepsy.

Alupent can cause side effects like nervousness, anxiety, tremors, and dizziness.

Allergic reactions: While rare, allergic reactions to Alupent components can occur.
