Nidagel is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of infections in which anaerobic bacteria have been identified or are suspected to be the cause. It is typically used in the treatment of vaginal infections.

Do’s

  • Nidagel is typically administered intravaginally once or twice a day. The specific dosing schedule will be determined by your healthcare provider.
  • For once-daily dosing, Nidagel should be administered at bedtime.
  • Remove the cap and puncture the metal seal on the tube with the pointed tip of the cap.
  • Screw the end of the applicator onto the tube. Slowly squeeze the gel out of the tube and into the applicator. The plunger will stop when the applicator is full.
  • Unscrew the applicator and replace the cap on the tube.
  • Insert the filled applicator into the vagina as far as it will comfortably go. This can be done while lying on your back with your knees bent or in any comfortable position. Slowly press the plunger until it stops to deposit the gel into the vagina, and then withdraw the applicator.
  • If prescribed twice daily, after use, pull the plunger out of the barrel, wash both the plunger and barrel in warm soapy water, and rinse thoroughly. Gently push the plunger back into the barrel to reassemble the applicator.
  • If you forget to take Nidagel, apply it at your next scheduled time.
  • If you think you have used too much Nidagel, contact your healthcare provider, hospital emergency department, or regional Poison Control Centre immediately, even if there are no symptoms.
