Minipress (Prazosin)

Do's

• Administer Minipress orally, with or without food, as instructed by your healthcare provider, typically two to three times daily. 
• Take it with food or milk if you experience an upset stomach. 
• Take the smallest available dose initially, prescribed by your healthcare provider, to mitigate the risk of sudden fainting. 
• Take the initial dose before bedtime to reduce the likelihood of fainting. 
• Administer subsequent dose increases of Minipress at bedtime unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider. 
• Consistent use of this medication is crucial to maximize its benefits. Taking it at the same time(s) each day can help ensure its effectiveness.    
• Continue taking the medication even if you feel well, especially if it is for high blood pressure, as its full benefits may take several weeks to manifest. 
• Adhere to these guidelines and seek personalized advice from your healthcare provider for any concerns regarding your medication regimen.  
• Inform your doctor if there is no improvement or if your condition worsens, particularly if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase. 

Don'ts

• Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your healthcare provider, as abrupt cessation may exacerbate certain conditions.  

The appropriate dosage is determined based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment.   

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, especially when getting up from a lying or sitting position
• Headache
• Drowsiness
• Weakness or lack of energy
• Palpitations
• Nausea
• Flushing
• Allergic reaction
• Asthenia (lack of energy)
• Malaise (general feeling of discomfort) 
• Pain
• Insomnia
• Urticaria (hives)
• Vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels)
• Eye pain

You should not use Minipress if you are allergic to it. If you have experienced allergic reactions to medications in the past, discuss this with your healthcare provider before taking Minipress.

Minipress can affect your pupils. If you are scheduled for cataract surgery, inform your healthcare provider ahead of time that you use Minipress.

Symptoms of an overdose may include extreme drowsiness or underactive reflexes. Seek medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Avoid driving or engaging in hazardous activities until you know how Minipress will affect you, as it may impair your reactions.

Careful monitoring of blood pressure during initial administration and titration of Minipress is suggested. Close observation is especially recommended for patients taking medications known to lower blood pressure.

Minipress has been administered without any adverse drug interaction in limited clinical experience. However, the addition of a diuretic or other antihypertensive agent to Minipress has been shown to cause an additive hypotensive effect. Discuss all medications you are taking with your healthcare provider.
