Diprolene Cream (Betamethasone Dipropionate Glycol)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Diprolene Cream and each time you get a refill, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
• Use Diprolene Cream on the skin only. Before applying, wash and dry your hands, then clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of the cream to the affected area and gently rub it in as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 1 to 2 times daily.
• After applying the cream, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands.
• Use this cream only for the condition for which it was prescribed. Inform your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or gets worse after 2 weeks.

Don’ts

• Avoid using the cream on the face, groin, or underarms, unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the treated area unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• When applying the cream near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes as this may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting the cream in the nose or mouth. If it gets in these areas, rinse with plenty of water.
• Do not use this cream for longer than prescribed.

Common Side Effects:

• Burning, itching, irritation, or dryness at the application site. 

If any of these effects last or get worse, notify your healthcare provider promptly.

Less Common Side Effects:

• Thinning of the skin (Atrophy)
• Tiny red lines or blood vessels showing under the skin (Telangiectasia)
• Bruising and shininess
• Dry or cracking skin
• Stretch marks
• Acne
• Hypopigmentation
• Hypersensitivity reactions such as dermatitis or a rash 

If you experience any severe skin irritation, signs of skin infection, or signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, stop using Diprolene Cream and seek medical attention promptly.

The use of Diprolene Cream in pediatric patients younger than 13 years of age is not recommended due to the potential for HPA axis suppression.

To minimize potential exposure to the breastfed infant via breast milk, Diprolene Cream should be used on the smallest area of skin and for the shortest duration possible while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding women are advised not to apply Diprolene Cream directly to the nipple and areola to avoid direct infant exposure.

Before using Diprolene Cream, individuals should inform their healthcare provider if they have a history of skin irritation after using steroid medicine, thinning of the skin, cataracts or glaucoma, diabetes, liver disease, adrenal gland problems, or any type of skin infection.

Consult a healthcare provider if pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Diprolene Cream.
