Valisone Scalp Lotion (Betamethasone)

• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before using the lotion.
• Gently cleanse and dry your scalp before applying.
• Apply the lotion as directed by your healthcare provider, typically following these steps:
  • Part your hair to expose the affected area.
  • Apply a thin layer of lotion directly to the scalp.
  • Gently massage the lotion into the scalp.
• Wash your hands again after applying, unless treating your hands.

Don'ts

• Avoid getting the lotion in your eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water.
• Don't get the lotion in your mouth or nose.
• Don't apply the lotion directly to your hair, only to the scalp.
• Don't bandage, cover, or wrap your head after applying.
• Don't use the lotion for longer than prescribed or for a condition other than what it was prescribed for.
• Unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs otherwise, avoid using Valisone scalp lotion on your face, groin, or underarms.

Common side effects

• Burning, dryness, irritation, itching, or redness or skin (usually mild and temporary)
• Skin rash (usually mild and temporary)
• Stinging sensation when applied (lotion only)

Serious side effects 

• Increased skin sensitivity
• Lack of healing of skin condition
• Ongoing burning, itching and irritation of skin
• Itchy rash with small, red, raised bumps
• Skin discolouration
• Skin infection
• "Spider veins" or blood vessels visible through the skin
• Thinning of skin with easy bruising

Tell your healthcare provider about any allergies you have, especially to Valisone Scalp Lotion, other corticosteroids, or any of its inactive ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider about your medical history, particularly poor blood circulation, diabetes, or immune system problems.

Do not use Valisone Scalp Lotion on infected or sore areas of the scalp.

Long-term or widespread use of Valisone Scalp Lotion may reduce your body's ability to respond to physical stress. Inform your healthcare provider about Valisone Scalp Lotion use before any surgery, emergency treatment, or serious illness/injury.

Long-term use of Valisone Scalp Lotion may slow down a child's growth. Regular healthcare provider visits are recommended to monitor your child's height.

Valisone Scalp Lotion should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if Valisone Scalp Lotion passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding to weigh the benefits and risks.
