Salmeterol Xinafoate (Serevent Diskus) is an aerosol inhaler used for the treatment of Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the bronchial tubes, allowing the passageways to expand and carry more air.

Special Information about Salmeterol Xinafoate

Salmeterol Xinafoate is not to be used for the treatment of acute worsening asthma attacks. It may cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Don't increase your dose without consulting with your doctor. Shake it well before every use.

Use with caution in

• Heart disease and high blood pressure or an irregular heartbeat.
• Seizure disorder or an overactive thyroid.

Not to be used if

• Allergic to any of the ingredients of Salmeterol Xinafoate.
• You are pregnant or are planning a pregnancy or breast-feeding.

Dosage

Aerosol Inhaler

For Asthma and Chronic Pulmonary Disease: The starting dose is 2 inhalations twice a day (morning and evening) 12 hours apart. Prevention of Exercise-induced Asthma: Take 2 inhalations at least 30 to 60 minutes before exercise. Do not take another dose for 12 hours.

Diskus Inhalation Powder

For Asthma and Chronic Pulmonary Disease: The starting dose is 1 inhalation twice a day (morning and evening). Prevention of Exercise-induced Asthma: Take 1 inhalation at least 30 minutes before exercise. Do not take another dose for 12 hours.
